Graham Gowan is a new lawyer, starting in a prestigious, criminal defence firm. His first client is Edward Boyd, a rounder for a powerful organized crime family. There was too much fluff and repetition in this book. The first half was pretty dull. The second half was better and held my interest but then the ending was a disappointment. There are better legal thrillers out there to read so don't waste your time with this one.Product details

Exceptional read. I really enjoyed this plot and the protagonist. I started the book and at first thought knew this one will be excellent and it was.
What a painful book and a feeling of an unfinished story. A psychological thriller that challenges mental health issues as we know them today, or do we know them?
I really liked this legal/psychological novel. The character's were fleshed out and interesting. The fact tbat the protagonist ends up in limbo but has agreed to get help is uplifting despite all the tragedy that ensues. Well written and insightful.
Loved it. Well-paced, with the novel twist of making the psychological state of the lawyer the focus, rather than that of the criminal. It is also very realistic at no point do you need to suspend your belief and just accept that it is fiction. The characters always act and react in ways that make sense, but the writer still manages to create drama and suspense, right until the end. This feels like it could be the start of a series, and I hope that it is.
Mr John Alan Pearson may not fit my "new writer" description, I only know that this is the First book I've read by him. That said, I found the blurb intriguing enough to download it, and I'm glad I did. I've been on a binge of reading Legal Fiction, ( as opposed to Illegal Fiction ? 😊 ), and this seemed to follow that trend. Well, what I got was a lot more than another Lawyer story. The deep psychological currents among family, coworkers, and Client- Attorney relations weave an involved web that makes this an " Unputdownable" Book. Highly recommended by HoosierHerm !
Can't wait to read the next installment of the Gowan lawyers. Hoping Graham and Nora expose the conspiracy and bring those involved to justice!
This was definitely a page turner. And quite a twist for an ending. I will look for other books by this author
